With Winterwerft 2023, we are taking the time to address all those issues that are presenting to us with an ever greater sense of urgency:
How can we give a voice and an agenda back, to all those who have been deprived of it during the rise of the Western notion of “civilization”, “modernism” and “progress”? How can the climate catastrophe, with all its floods, storms, droughts, all its displaced people, refugees, deaths, be brought into stage? What songs and dances, languages and chants need to be flung, sung and spoken out of our hearts, out of the theaters, out of the windows onto the streets and squares, into the plenary halls?
out of 30.01. – 12.02.2023 we want to dedicate time together to these topics, relate to each other and explore old and new knowledge within theater.
All of these during the Co-Laboratorium, set up at the kulturgelände protagon in Frankfurt, where we will spend two weeks training and rehearsing together, discussing and researching, making music and listening, peeling potatoes and cleaning the bathroom. Analog and in a safe space, since this is where everything we need to live comes together in one place: A rehearsal stage, dance studio, studios, accommodations, and above all: community.
During the week we research and work together and on Saturdays and Sundays we open the festival to the public. We will have workshops every day from Monday to Friday by different artists* and groups from all over Europe. There will also be additional time for personal as well as collaborative creation with the possibility of performing during the festival days.
Workshops, performances, discussions, lectures, film evenings, exhibitions, and much more await you, want to be experienced, and most of all: want to be shaped.
That’s why we’re looking for you – your questions, your ideas, your creative power. If you want to be part of it, send us an email with some information about you: Who are you? Why do you want to be part of it? What questions move you? and – possibly, but not necessary – do you have a concrete contribution in mind for the Winterwerft?
The co-laboratory is open to all: previous experience in one of the above areas is an advantage, but more important is willingness and interest to engage with the topics of the laboratory, as well as collaborative living.
When: 30.01.-12.02.2023
Where: Frankfurt am Main, Kulturgelände protagon.
Contact: info@winterwerft.de
Price: 1 Week (Minimum): 150-350€, 2 Weeks: 275-600€.
What you pay is based on how much you can and would like to give.
In order for a graduated scale to work, there must be honesty and respect for the complexity and accountability. We do not require proof of income. We trust you to be honest.
The maximum price reflects the true value of the collaborator. If you are able to pay for “desires” and spend little time worrying about having your basic needs met every month, you are in a position of economic privilege and power in our society. Then, this prize is for you.
A moderate price is intended for those who can meet their basic needs but have little to no expendable income. To participate in the Co-Laboratory could mean a sacrifice, but it does not throw you into precariousness.
The lower price is intended for those who have difficulty meeting their basic needs and for whom paying for this course would mean a substantial burden.
You are of course always welcome to pay more. In this way, you enable us to make our work accessible to less privileged participants.
We want to encourage an open conversation about money, with all that entails (e.g. shame, self-worth, etc.). If you want to participate, we will always find a solution with you.
